Custom Fitting Odd Window Types
Unconventional window types can certainly add a lot of panache to a home. These architectural details lend unique character to any space, and are often a key selling point for home buyers.
Regardless of their special appeal, however, unusual window types can be tricky when it comes to window treatments. For most odd window types, finding a ready-made window treatment is next to impossible. Thankfully, 3 Day Blinds provides professional help in choosing custom-made solutions for all odd window types with our design consultants.
Bay and Bow Windows
Bay and bow windows refer to window types that protrude from the main structure of a building. While the terms “bay” and “bow” are sometimes used interchangeably, a bow window is actually a bay window with a curved, rather than a polygonal, design (think of an archer’s bow).
Bow and bay windows certainly add appeal to a home, as they increase the flow of natural light, add apparent size, and provide a sweeping, panoramic view of the outside world.
A good window treatment is a must, in order to maximize the appeal of bay or bow windows. Roman shades and roller shades can add a clean look, and both go a long way toward tying the design of a room together. Accenting a bay window treatment with a valance can conceal the blinds when they are up, and it lets in more light than drapes. Custom-fit cloth shades in each window can add a regal touch, and serve to control light very well.
Awning and Casement Windows
Once the most popular type of window, casement windows have side-mounted hinges, and are typically opened with a crank. Awning windows are similar to casement windows, but they are hinged at the top, and open from the bottom. Both of these designs require some consideration when choosing window treatments.
Casement windows require dressings that don’t interfere with the operation of the window. Additionally, casement windows that open inward require extra clearance. Window dressings such as drapes and curtains must be mounted so that when they are drawn, they remain outside the casement window’s range of operation. They can also be mounted within the window frame, so that they move with the window.
Vinyl vertical blinds represent a great option for awning windows. They provide light control, don’t impede the function of the window, and are available in a wide variety of colors and styles.
Roman shades are another excellent choice for dressing awning windows. The shades have a timeless look; when they are drawn, they take full advantage of the wonderful airflow offered by awning windows.
As the name implies, picture windows are intended to provide big, striking views of the outside world. But, as one might imagine, they can also let the outside world see into the privacy of your home.
3 Day Blinds can custom-make cellular shades, roman shades, roller shades, or other types of shades to fit any picture window. When using shades to dress a picture window, valances can add a splash of color and conceal the shades when drawn open. Drapes can also help to frame the complete picture of your home’s décor.
We also provide custom treatments for angled windows, French doors, sidelight windows, and other types of challenging windows.
