In Orange County, CA volunteers donate their time to help with the construction of new homes through Habitat for Humanity. This morning, a Habitat for Humanity truck came to the 3 Day Blinds warehouse to take away the donation of a truckload of drapes, shutters, shades and blinds that will be used in homes that they are building, or sold in their stores to raise money for their local and worldwide efforts to provide housing for low income families.

“We are excited to donate window treatments to Habitat for Humanity, a cause all of us at 3 Day Blinds support,” said Dave Hall, CEO, after helping to load the boxes of blinds on the truck.  “We know that this great organization will find the best way to use our products to benefit their clients and build on their success.”

Most of the products that 3 Day Blinds donated were used in photo shoots or in the extensive product testing and prototyping process that is a part of our product development cycle. “I know that Habitat for Humanity will be delighted when they open these boxes.  What they will find are exclusive, one-of-a-kind window treatments that are the same quality and have the same features that our professional designers specify for their clients,” said Karin Jeske, SVP Merchandising and Product Development.  “I am happy to know that we will be bringing creativity, fashion and style to the clients of Habitat for Humanity.”

In the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti, Habitat for Humanity volunteers work alongside local residents to provide housing. We asked Noe Rivas, Manager, Material Acquisitions from Habitat for Humanity of Orange County about their efforts in our local community:  “We are proud to say that we have completed construction on 171 homes in Orange County, CA so far, that now house 968 residents.  Our newest project is in Santa Ana, a community where there are many in need of our services.  The progress we make is always accelerated by the volunteers who generously donate their time, and great organizations like 3 Day Blinds who donate high quality products.  We are so appreciative!”

As the truck drove away, we all felt grateful that our window coverings would be used to benefit families in need.  We asked Frank Gutierrez, SVP of Manufacturing and Supply Chain about the size and value of the donation.  “Today we loaded 400 blinds on the Habitat for Humanity truck.  The retail value of each of these blinds averages $220, so the total value of the donation is $88,000.”

Jeff Miller of 3 Day Blinds is an Invited Speaker at an International Quality Conference

From the Customer Service presentation at the 2012 Quality and Research Productivity Conference. Jim Bampos of EMC2 Corporation, Jeff Miller of 3 Day Blinds, Li Guo, PhD Candidate, UC Riverside, Dr. Daniel Jeske of UC Riverside and Dr. Terrance Callanan of Carestream HealthThe Quality Productivity and Research Conference (QPRC) is an annual multi day event that draws top professionals in business, science, academia and government from around the world, to review the latest cutting edge ideas on improving quality, and to stimulate more interdisciplinary research in this area.  Conference sponsors include General Electric, Raytheon, SAS Statistical Software, VMware, Minitab Stat-Ease and Meirss.

At 3 Day Blinds, we are excited that Jeff Miller, our Senior VP of Client Experience, was invited by QPRC 2012 conference organizers to share his ideas and experiences in a presentation entitled “Improving Customer Satisfaction Using a Proven Data-Driven, Customer-Centric Methodology”.

jeff-miller-3-day-blinds-IMG_0268Jeff Miller, SVP Client Experience, 3 Day Blinds, presents at QPRC 20123 Day Blinds has a 34 year legacy of providing great products and service backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty, but since joining 3 Day Blinds in the summer of 2010, Jeff has elevated the way we deliver client care to the hundreds of thousands of clients that have done business with us to “world class”, using the latest technology, combined with processes that require efficient follow-up to resolve issues, so that no stone is left unturned to live up to our core value of providing Superior Client Experiences.  Jeff came to us from Global Experience Specialists (GES), a company with nearly a billion dollars in revenue,  where he transformed their Client Contact Center to one that was JD Power & Associates certified.

Using 3 Day Blinds as a case study, Jeff took the conference delegates through a series of slides that outlined the methods he has implemented, which include surveying each client after every touch point (appointment scheduling, design consultation, installation and contact with client care), tabulating the data and giving his team the tools and technology to take action to resolve any issues that surface.

He shared data showing how the metrics have improved during his tenure, how the data helps managers across the company identify opportunities for improvement, and the team approach we take to solving these issues.  He emphasized that success with these methods is only possible if everyone, including our board of directors, and senior management, buy in.

After his talk, he answered a dozen questions from the audience who wanted more information.  “We were excited that Jeff Miller from 3 Day Blinds was part of our agenda, and able to share with us his real-life example of how data, combined with great technology, efficient processes and employee empowerment can greatly improve customer satisfaction, and how that leads to increased revenue for the company,”  said Daniel Jeske, Professor and Chair of the Statistics Department of University of California, Riverside, and Chair of the 2012 QPRC conference.

“I am honored to have been chosen to speak at QPRC 2012,” says Jeff.  “It was an exhilarating conference with many great speakers, and I enjoyed sharing best practices and information about emerging ideas and technologies related to quality and productivity with leaders from top companies and institutions from around the world.”

The session on Customer Service that included Jeff’s talk was organized by Terrance Callanan of Carestream Health, and also included two other outstanding speakers, Jim Bampos of EMC2 Corporation whose presentation was entitled, “How to Take a Fortune 200 Company and Make Satisfaction and Loyalty Matter,” and Li Guo, a PhD candidate at UC Riverside, who presented an overview of a paper related to her doctoral thesis written in collaboration with Dr. Daniel Jeske and Dr. Terrance Callanan entitled “Cumulative Logistic Regression Models with Ordinal Explanatory Variables:  Application to Customer Care Metrics.”

Congratulations, Jeff, for taking the stage at an international conference attended by the elite professionals in your field, and knocking their socks off with your presentation on the world class service provided by you and your team to 3 Day Blinds’ clients!

It has been 4 months since 3 Day Blinds launched our new Custom Drapery Program, and the reviews from our Designers and Clients have been nothing but wonderful!

Tammi Motsinger, 3 Day Blinds Design Consultant, who is #1 in Drapery sales!Just ask Tammi Motsinger, our top drapery designer:  “I’ve been designing custom window treatments for more than 20 years, and this is the best drapery program I have ever worked with.  It has taken the industry by a storm and we are leaving our competitors in the dust!  The 3 Day Blinds assortment includes an exclusive collection of the hottest home decor fabrics that range from traditional to modern and simple to embellished, with wonderful solid colors, stripes, botanicals, embroideries and jacquards, with a great solution for every room.  My clients are always surprised that I am able to provide an instant quote, and are then blown away by our fast delivery and worry-free installation.”

To build on this great momentum, we decided to bring all of our Training Facilitators from around the country to the Irvine Support Center for a day and a half of intense drapery training.  We spent the day running through the training materials, role playing, sketching concepts, and configuring products in Voyager, our proprietary point-of-sale system that allows our designers to provide instant quotes to their clients.

“It was great to spend time with my colleagues from across the country, and to brainstorm and share best practices and ideas” says Anita Veech, our Training Facilitator from Colorado.  “Our clients are falling in love with the fabrics and styles we offer, and it is my responsibility to make sure that the Design Consultants across the state have all the tools and training they need to provide the best product recommendations and service.”

“I would like to echo Anita’s comments,” says Anthony Allain, our training facilitator for our east coast Designers.  “The training department truly represents the 3 Day Blinds core value of “One Team”.  We have conference calls every week, and we are in constant contact, lending support to one another, each bringing to the table unique expertise, and the willingness to share.  But it is so special to be in the same room together, meeting face-to-face and collaborating. The new drapery program allows us to serve our clients in new ways, to truly complete the look in ways we could not have dreamed of before, and we spent the day learning how to excelerate our success!”

“Training is a major focus for us,” said Tikie Holewski, Executive Vice President.  “We invest heavily in development of our team members because we never compromise on our core value of providing a Superior Client Experience in both the products we recommend and the service we provide, including our Limited Lifetime Warranty.  Everyone who works at 3 Day Blinds shares this passion for excellence.”

tina-aiena-jean-gaitten-3-day-blinds-IMG_0255Tina Aiena and Jean Gaitten collaborate to configure a Drapery Treatment in Voyager, the system that allows our Designers to provide an on-the-spot quote.

“What really impresses me is the tools we are given to help us succeed with our clients.  I am in awe of the sophisticated programming that allows us to quickly and easily specify and price custom draperies,” said Leticia Gutierrez, who provides training to our Orange County, CA Designers.  “Today we learned about how the simple measurements we provide are translated into job tickets on the factory floor that ensure a perfect fit based on the decorative hardware chosen, window specifications and client preferences.  Time and time again, we find that we can have the product manufactured and installed before most of our competitors can even provide a quote!”

Judeann Glover, Director of Training and Development, 3 Day Blinds“Today was a success!” declared Judeann Glover, Director of Training and Development, “Our Training Facilitators are an outstanding group of professionals with the creative and technical skills needed, along with the ability to facilitate learning across the spectrum or our Designers.  The collective energy we all felt as we reviewed the training materials was amazing!  I know that these talented individuals will be able to impart this knowledge to our 200 designers, which will add fuel to the already successful inferno that IS our drapery program!”

It’s amazing that Judeann was able to smile so stunningly and demonstrate so much excitement with only 4 hours of sleep (and most of the weekend dedicated to finalizing the agenda and materials for the meeting).  Thank you Judeann!

3 Day Blinds Promotes Tikie and Greg!

tikie-holewski-greg-bibas-3-day-blinds-IMG_0141Promotions announced at 3 Day Blinds: Tikie Holewski is now Executive Vice President and Greg Bibas is now Chief Marketing Officer

Dave Hall, CEO at 3 Day Blinds, covered many exciting topics this morning during our Town Hall Meeting, including our rapid growth that is greatly out pacing the industry, our many new team members both in our Irvine Support Center and across the country, the success of our recent Drapery and Soft Roman Shade product launch, and recognition for the achievement of many teams and individuals throughout the organization.

While there was much to applaud, there was no announcement more exciting than the news that 2 of our senior managers had been promoted to even more senior positions!

Tikie Holewski has been promoted to Executive Vice President.  Tikie came to 3 Day Blinds in 2008.  Now, you’re probably thinking “Custom Window Coverings? An industry highly dependent on a strong real estate market and general economy?  2008?  Hope that worked out…”  Well, actually it has!  Since joining the company, Tikie has been heavily involved in human resources, operations, sales, general management, and the challenging task of guiding 3 Day Blinds through rough economic waters.  She was instrumental in developing the strategies that changed our business focus from storefront retail to to the highly effective shop-at-home services we now offer.  Tikie has been an energetic cheerleader at every step, exhibiting grace and humor when under pressure, and she deserves a lot of credit for transforming our company into a successful organization we are today, currently focused on maintaining our core values during a period of rapid growth, and delighting each and every client.  Because of her vast knowledge and supportive nature, most of us in management casually and affectionately refer to Tikie as our “Wingwoman”…  going forward that will be “Executive Wingwoman,”  thank you very much!

Greg Bibas has been promoted to Chief Marketing Officer.  Greg joined 3 Day Blinds in late 2010, at a time when we had defined our new strategy, but were mainly sustaining ourselves with the brand recognition and great reputation that caused clients to reach out to us based on remembering an ad from the late 90s, a friend’s recommendation or a past experience… all nice to have, but not a formula for the growth through new client acquisition that we all were wanting!  In an effort to find new customers, Greg immediately revved up our marketing machine with the testing, adjusting, and re-testing of programs he designed, all of which were executed with measurable marketing tactics.  Along the way, he also built a team of top-notch marketing professionals.  We’re happy to report that Greg’s approach, which provides great creative execution that communicates our value proposition, combined with highly sophisticated analysis has cracked the “secret marketing code”,  and we’ve actually had to ask him to slow down a few times, so the rest of us could catch up!  We’re excited to share that because Greg has been so successful in reaching clients who will benefit from learning about our fantastic selection of custom window treatments products, supported by our great service, we’re positioned for sustained growth, and this will allow us to provide a Superior Experience to more clients than ever.  And of course, that’s why we’re here.

Congratulations to Tikie and Greg from all of us!

Like what you’re hearing? Want to be our next ecstatically satisfied client?  Ready for new window treatments and to experience our fast and professional service?  Just give us a call at 877-614-3329 and we will schedule a free in-home design consultation with one of our expert Designers at a time that is convenient for you.  We’ll help you choose the perfect custom blinds, shades,  shutters, or drapes for your home, take guaranteed measurements, and arrange for professional installation.  Why wait?

Prior to joining 3 Day Blinds, Dave Hall, our new CEO had a long career as a senior executive in the trade show industry.  “I walked in Tuesday morning thinking about my past life and all of the logistics that brings an industry show like this together, but I will leave with a much greater understanding of the window treatments industry and products, and an appreciation of the wonderful people I met, including our suppliers, both existing and potential, the inventors that fuel innovation, and also our friendly competitors who always challenge us to be the best we can be and to live our core values,” said Dave as he wrapped up his two day visit.  “I would like to thank Grace McNamara, who has orchestrated this show for years,  the exhibitors who commit time and resources to reaching us through this venue and the fabulous speakers who pull together the seminars that provide education.”

In addition, Window Coverings Safety Council, a group made up of top window coverings executives from across the spectrum of manufacturers, distributors and retailers, held a meeting to discuss advancements in child safety.  “I have been a member of the council for more than a decade, and we continue to make amazing progress in developing safer products and making consumers aware of the child safety issues associated with corded window treatments,” said Mike McCarty, the Director of Engineering at 3 Day Blinds.
