With 3 Day Blinds Floral Print – The Flowers Can Match The Drapes!

We’ve all heard the saying “April showers bring May flowers,” this got us thinking. What makes floral print have so much staying power in both fashion and design? Regardless of how you feel about floral print it’s hard to deny that floral print has been around for ages and it doesn’t look like its uprooting (get it?) any time soon.

3 Day Blinds has a great selection of floral print fabrics in a variety of colors, but enough about that, today’s fun comes in trying to match the flowers in the fabrics to flowers in real life.

Collage of Purple bell flowers next to fabric

How did we do?

So this one was a little tough. There are so many pieces to this fabric and we tried to go for matching the branches rather than matching the exact flowers themselves. We found some purple bells and decided that was close enough. What do you think?

Hydrangeas next to blue fabric pattern

Ok so maybe we’re way off with this one…

Even though we know for sure there are no hydrangeas in the above fabric (addison delfit) we love hydrangeas. A lot of other flower enthusiasts do too so how could we pass up the opportunity to bring some cool color into the blog.

Red flowers next to red floral print pattern

Again…we’re pretty off, but these were just too pretty to pass up

While this might not feel like an exact match the look and feel definitely compliment one another. When choosing fabrics for your window treatments you don’t necessarily have to have the exact flower in your garden to the window treatment you are looking to design with. Get a pattern that matches the look at feel of your garden and you’ll be smiling for years to come!

Orange Chrysanthemum next to orange floral fabric pattern

Finally…a decent match

This orange chrysanthemum screamed at us to pick it when we matched it to our giverny goldenrod pattern. The resemblance is uncanny.

So how’d we do? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook and Twitter. While we the fine writers of the 3 Day Blinds blog work in window treatments, we are no match for our high skilled design consultants. They work magic and can match almost any fabric to almost any style. So jump on over to our website and call or schedule today to see what type of window treatments will sprout up in your home!

Window Treatments as Pretty As A Peach

With May just starting it’s time to get ready for Peach season. Peaches are delicious and are so versatile in how you can use them. Whether you are making a light summer lunch with a peach tartine or you want a wonderful dessert like a peach tart tatin they have many uses.

The color peach works much the same way. The way you design in peach can help inspire appetite and can make people feel more comfortable. It’s no wonder so many restaurants use on their interior design.

Psychologists have found that in addition to increasing appetite, peach also increases peoples willingness to speak and have a conversation.

These fabrics can help you feel peachy keen in whatever room you decide

It is also said that peach and other shades of orange help in accepting new ideas and processing information.

Kermit the Frog agreeing

Even though Kermit agrees he knows we’re right ;)

So the next time you are planning a big dinner party and want there to be a lot of conversation and don’t want any leftovers consider adding some peach or orange in the mix. 3 Day Blinds is here to help and we’ve got more fabrics and design options to help inspire whatever feelings you want in your kitchen or dining room. Grey Skies are Going, but Grey Window Treatments are IN!

With Spring in full swing things are starting to heat up. Those gloomy skies are making way for a brighter tomorrow, but one thing remains clear – grey interior design is here to stay.

Designing with grey in mind will help the colors that you bring into the room pop with more effect than many other colors. Grey also works well as a base, though it may seem drab and dreary to have so much grey in your home the neutrality that it offers increases the options that you can bring into your home. Grey walls stand as an accent to those pieces that you choose to hang there.

Bedroom shot with red lamp and red valence

Using grey helps other colors come to life!

If you’d rather not go crazy with the grey, but you still like the added effect that it brings, you could always just use it as an accent wall color. If even that seems extreme you could always incorporate grey into your window treatments using drapery.

Four Tile Collage with Four Swatches

These are just some of the options when looking to go grey!

The great thing about grey is that the number of complimentary colors that comes with designing in grey opens a world of possibility. So whether you want to go grey all over, or just want to have a touch of grey there’s a design option available to you. 3 Day Blinds makes it easy to look at window treatments in any color you want, visit 3 Day Blinds today to schedule your free in-home consultation.

Cleaning can be a real drag and who has the time? Even though we might sometimes wish for a fairy godmother to help us like Cinderella. We’ve got some great tips to make cleaning go quickly.

Fairy godmother appearing to Cinderella

It’ll be OK. We can get through this.

Cleaning Window Treatments Made Simple

No matter what type of window treatment you have we have a method to clean it. Head over to our Care and Cleaning section.

Pillowcases for Dust Free Cleaning

Fan blades can be a tricky spot to clean. Often times, you’ll need a step ladder and then there’s a mess to clean up afterward. Take away the struggle of and use a pillowcase. Simply slip the pillowcase over the fan blades and you’ll have a bag to collect the dust!

Throw it Out!

One of the easiest ways to clean a space is by getting rid of your clutter. Maybe you’ve got a DIY project from Pinterest that you said you were going to finish. We’re not telling you to give up on your dreams, but if you have things that you haven’t used in 6 months, get rid of them. Donate them, throw them out do whatever, but get them out of your life. The relief you will feel from cleansing your space will help you exponentially.

Remove Light Scratches in Wood Furniture or Flooring

Now this might sound nuts, but you can use walnuts to remove light scratches in wood flooring or furniture. Simply remove the walnut from the shell and lightly rub on the affected areas. Your furniture and flooring will look great in no time.

Woman sighing with relief

And now that you’re done sit back and relax.

Obviously, it’s easier to have someone else do the work, but if you’re feeling like a real go-getter these tips will make the time fly by.

April Fools!

Did we fool you?

Even though this cool product was just an April Fool’s Day goof, we hope you enjoyed it. Though this product might not exist, we have hundreds of other options to choose from Visit us now and see what’s out there!

Honeycomb Security Shade Launch!

One thing that deters home intruders from breaking into a home is seeing signs that someone is at home. Have you ever seen the movie “Home Alone”? The Wet Bandits avoided breaking into the McCallister home because of cardboard cutouts for Pete’s sake! Well, we’re excited to launch our new line of Honeycomb Security Shades. As someone approaches your window the shades will light up just as if you turned on the light in that room.

How they work

Our engineers used the latest in LED and motion sensor technology to provide the securest solution for homeowners. We have fitted certain styles in our honeycomb line with LEDs between the cells to light up as someone approaches your windows. The lights are turned on when a motion sensor is tripped and are set to a timer to stay on for up to 25 minutes at a time. The shade must be fully drawn in order for the sensors to work properly.

Future of Security Shades

As we move forward in the continual development of the product we hope to iterate on the design to make them the most functional they can be. With facial recognition technology advancing and becoming more affordable we hope to incorporate this into the design. Using this added technology you would then be able to set up trusted faces so that not everyone sets off the sensor.

In addition, we are also looking into programmable shadow patterns to give the appearance that someone is in the room, but currently this technology is still in the alpha stage of development.

So whether you’re beefing up the security around your perimeter or you’re trying to stop Kevin from seriously maiming home intruders with booby traps think of 3 Day Blinds Honeycomb Security Shades!

5 Ways to Go “Green” This St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is a fun-filled holiday. And while it will come as no surprise that green is the “color of the day” for St. Patty’s Day, but there are also several ways to infuse green into your home. From energy efficient, eco-friendly window coverings to other simple DIY ideas, “going green” has never been more popular or easy! Here’s a short list of our “Top 5” ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by not only wearing green, but also showing it inside your home.

Start with Eco-Friendly Blinds and Shades

Modern Room - White Eco Friendly Roman Shades

Eco-Friendly Roman Shades

With greater emphasis on being eco-friendly, selecting the right window treatments can make a real difference. Choosing window treatments which are the least harmful to the environment is easier than ever, and 3 Day Blinds can help you! Our eco-friendly window coverings use fabrics with GreenGuard, Confidence in Textiles, or GreenAssured certification, and meet some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Some of our favorites here include select Roller Shades, Roman Shades, Pleated Shades, and Vertical Blinds.

Saving Water at Home

There are so many things we can do to reduce our water consumption – and save cash as well! Here are some brief and simple tips most of us can apply:

  • Shorter showers with less pressure
  • Install a water saving shower head – under $10
  • Ensuring taps, water pipes and hose connections don’t drip
  • Checking toilets for leaks. Use a few drops of food coloring in the cistern, wait for a while and check the bowl for signs of color – be sure to flush afterwards to prevent staining.
  • Using low water car washes
  • Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving

These are just some of the many ways we can help preserve one of our planet’s most precious natural resources, and they are easy to do too!

Planting a Home Vegetable Garden

Uprooted Carrot

Save money by planting your own vegetable garden

Starting a vegetable garden at home is an easy way to save money — that $2 tomato plant can easily provide you with 10 pounds of fruit over the course of a season, it’s also extremely eco-friendly.

In addition to providing you and your family with delicious, sun-warmed vegetables fresh from the garden, you’re also introducing natural, organic nutrients back into the earth’s soil. Plus, growing vegetables can be fun. It’s a great way to spend time with children or have a place to get away and spend time outdoors in the sun.

If you plan it right, you can enjoy a beautiful garden full of the fruits of your labor — without having to spend hours and hours tending it. Planting a garden that includes vegetables and flowers means you’ve combined natural companions, and that can turn a potential eyesore into an attractive landscape feature.

Air Conditioner Tips that Keep You Cool While Saving Energy

Hot weather is just around the “calendar corner”, and you are likely to use your air conditioner at least a few times soon (if not more). But have you spent the time to ensure that it’s running as it should? And have you considered an overall cooling strategy that could help you run your air conditioner less, save money, and stay cool and comfortable? If you answered no to both of those questions, the tips below can help you get on track for an efficient cooling season. These tips can help keep your air conditioner running efficiently and prolong the life of the unit:

  • Replace filters every one to two months during the cooling season. You can lower energy use by 5%-15% by replacing a dirty filter with a clean one
  • Check the evaporator coil every year and clean it as needed
  • Clean the area around outdoor condenser coils by removing debris and trimming foliage so there are at least two feet around the condenser for airflow.

These and other simple adjustments can make a big difference in efficient cooling of your home, while also lowering your energy bills and reducing your carbon footprint at the same time.

Think “Green” with your Pillows

Loose Buckwheat Hull

Buckwheat Hulls used as filling for pillows for an eco-friendly pillow

Another item that we probably don’t give much thought to environment-wise is the pillow. Most of us will sleep our way through dozens of pillows over our lifetimes – and with countless others doing the same, it’s worth giving some consideration. A widely-used pillow filling is polyester fiber. Other common synthetic pillow fillings include memory foam which is made from polyurethane with additional chemicals. Both of these substances take a very long time to break down in the environment.

In looking for “greener” alternatives for pillows, here are some excellent choices that are not only comfy for sleeping, but that you can also be proud of when it comes to being kind to our planet.

Wool Fiber Fill
Feather and Down Fill
Buckwheat Hull Fill
Natural Shredded Rubber Fill

There you have it! Following these “green-friendly” tips will help keep you stay in the St. Patty’s Day spirit all year long, save you money on lower energy and food bills, and help our earth’s environment.
