Spring Cleaning Blinds Shades Curtains Shutters

How to Clean Blinds, Shades, Shutters & Curtains

Follow these quick 4 steps on how to Clean Blinds, Shades, Shutters and Curtains?

1). General Cleaning Tip for Blinds, Shades, Shutters and Curtains

While spring cleaning only comes once a year, to maintain the beauty of your window treatments for years to come you should dust and vacuum periodically. Adding an extra step to your cleaning routine can preserve your window treatments and avoid irreversible damage to the fabric or material.

2) Cleaning Tips for Blinds

Horizontal Metal, Wood and Faux Wood Blinds should be cleaned with a wood dust spray like,  Pledge® Dust & Allergen furniture spray and wiped dry. To finish off, rub blinds with a dryer sheet to slow down dust collection.

3) Cleaning Tips for Shades, Honeycomb and Vertical Blinds

If you are looking to clean Honeycomb Shades, Flexcell Honeycomb Blinds, Horizontal Sheer Shades and Vertical Blinds use a hair dryer on cool or warm temperature to blow dust out of the channels. For  Vertical Blinds, wash vertical fabric casing on Sheer Vertical Blinds in the washing machine on the gentle cycle and immediately re-hand on the window treatment with a towel beneath. Warning, do not let vertical case sit in washing machine to wrinkle and do not put case in dryer, the heat will destroy the case. Clean the fabric of these window treatments with a damp cloth and mild detergent and leave to air dry.

4)  Cleaning Tips for Curtains and Drapes:

3 Day Blinds recommends taking your Curtains and Drapes to the dry cleaners to ensure the different fabrics are treated as needed. Keep in mind that frequent dusting and occasional vacuuming is a great way to keep your curtains clean year round.

5) Cleaning Tips for Shutters

Shutters are actually one of the easiest window treatments to clean and maintain. In addition to dusting every few weeks, the best way to clean Shutters is with your wood cleaning spray and a soft cloth.

Window Treatment Styles

Find Out What Home Decor Style You Prefer?

Something everyone should consider when decorating a room is that window treatments can completely transform a space and help you achieve a desired look. Follow these quick steps to find out which home décor style you prefer.

Step 1: This neutral style living room via Pottery Barn is missing a key element, window treatments. What window treatment would you select for this space, 1, 2 or 3?

Window Treatment 101

Step 2: Read what your selection says about your home décor preference.

  1. Traditional and Classic: You have selected Draperies in Giverny Goldenrod. You gravitate toward timeless prints and classic furniture. While this floral print is something that may have hung in your grandmother’s living room, it has a fresh look with a warm pallet. The beige, gray and muted yellow tones are an unexpected complement to this classic floral print. You like the idea of color but done in moderation, a few colorful accent items are just enough to tie the room together.
  2. Casual with a dash of Exotic: You have selected a Woven Wood Shade in Terra Rouge Ebony. You live by the philosophy form follows function, and home décor or window treatments are no exception to the rule. You have an appreciation for style but you are looking to achieve a comfortable and casual living space. In your opinion, it is a bonus that the Woven Wood Shades are made from natural reeds and fibers because they bring a touch of the outdoors into your home. You prefer items in rich wood tones because they unify your home décor while adding textural interest to your space.
  3.  Modern and Sophisticated: You have selected Soft Roman Shades in Trellis Daffodil. You follow trends and sometimes are even ahead of times with your home décor items. Lines and geometric shapes are something that help you achieve a balanced look. The thought of mixing colors and patterns excites you and gets your creative wheels turning. You’re not afraid to take a risk and be bold with your décor because your space and decor are always changing and evolving.

Window Treatment trends- Gray Window treatments

Gray Is The New Neutral- Greige

Historically, using gray hues in the home was avoided because many feared it would create a dark and cold space. Now we are seeing grays ranging in tone from soft dove to deep charcoal expressed in all elements of the home, especially in window treatments. Gray draperies and gray soft roman shades are already front-runners in 2014 and we expect to see this trend continue to flourish throughout the year.

Fabrics Inspired By A World Traveler

Now more than ever people are connecting throughout the world thanks to advancing technology and social media sites like Pinterest and Instagram. We are seeing this interconnectivity infused into everyday living and home décor. Bohemian, tribal and moroccan inspired prints are making a resurgence in the market and most commonly expressed with draperies.

Window Treatment Trends 2014- Traditional

Keep It Classy With Traditional Home Decor

Classic colors like gold in all shades mixed with reds and blues create a soft, traditional and beautiful palette. Rich fabrics such as, velvets and faux silks with bold prints like damasks, floral and paisleys have stood the test of time and are still important and used in many homes.
