Top 3 Day Blinds Design Consultants Return from Hawaii Trip

Congratulations to 3 Day Blinds Design Consultants and President’s Club  members, Cheryl Pilkington, Corinne Mar and Susan Gwin, who all earned luxurious 5 day trips to Hawaii for 2 at the Sheraton Waikiki, a beautiful beach front hotel on the island of Oahu.  Trip winners met aggressive customer satisfaction and sales goals in 2010.

The group recently returned.  Sue brought her son, Ty, Corinne brought her husband Thomas, and they were joined by our CEO, Kevin Rabbitt, and his wife, Emily.  Unfortunately, Cheryl and her husband David had to cancel at the last minute.

“I was thrilled to learn that I had earned this trip.  Hawaii was wonderful.  We had a great time enjoying our beautiful surroundings, the fun things to do, and some team bonding time as well,” said Corinne. “For me it was also fun to watch Thomas surf, because that is one of his passions.  Every minute was well-spent.”

Looking north along the white sandy beaches of Waikiki, toward Diamond Head.

Some of the activities the group enjoyed included dinner at the beach house at the historic Moana Surfrider Hotel, which everyone highly recommends, and a trip to the Polynesian Cultural Center, which offered some great shows and lots of ice cream.  Word from the team was that it would have been nice to have been able to order some rum-laced drinks with pretty umbrellas, but this was a liquor-free experience.

“We wante dto reward our hardest working and most productive Design Consultants with some rest and relaxation, but some work continued,” said Kevin.  “What impressed me was that when I looked at the daily sales reports, I saw that these ladies were still placing orders and following up with their clients, even while on what was supposed to be enjoying the getaway.”

The winners also spent some time on their own.  There was a lot to see on the streets, on the beach and in the water.  “I really enjoyed spending some quality time with my son in a place that I can only describe as paradise,” says Sue.  “A highlight for us was visiting the Bishop Museum, which celebrates Hawaiian history and nature.”

Professional bathing suit models caught poolside by the Paparazzi? No! Emily and Kevin Rabbitt relax at the Sheraton (while the rest of us on the mainland were busy serving our customers and making blinds).

Kevin and Emily, who left their 4 children at home with grandparents, enjoyed soaking up the sun.  “For me, it not just a chance to relax and spend some time alone with my husband, but by meeting Sue and Corinne, it was a chance to learn more about the work my husband does at 3 Day Blinds,” said Emily.  “It was so enlightening and interesting to hear about the company from the people who actually serve the customers day in and day out. I am proud that Kevin runs such a successful company, one that helps their clients beautify their homes with new custom blinds, shades and shutters and one that employs such outstanding professionals.”

Emily has reason to be impressed. Susan, Cheryl and Corinne are true window treatments and customer service professionals, as are all of our 200 Design Consultants.  And normally, they are not out globetrotting, but instead meeting with their neighbors in their local communities to help design the perfect window treatments.

During your free consultation, they will come to your home or business with more than 1000 product choices, listen to your needs and recommend the best custom blinds, shades or shutters for your application.  In addition, they take guaranteed measurements, provide a free quote and arrange for installation.  Call 877-614-3329 to schedule your in-home design or click here to type in your zip code to meet your team of neighborhood 3 Day Blinds Designers.

3 Day Blinds is Rallying! New Appointment Levels Set (and Still Rising)!

At 3 Day Blinds, our business is driven by successful Design Consultations that take place at our clients’ homes or offices.  We provide these consultations at no charge, because we are confident that we can find the ideal custom window treatments solution for every situation.  We’ve been making custom blinds, shades and shutters for happy customers since 1978, and we firmly believe that meeting with our clients in person, discussing their needs and budget, and looking at the actual windows is the best way to deliver on our core value of “Superior Client Experience”.

Every week, Sunday through Saturday, we count our appointments. We obsessively compare actuals to forecast, to last week, to the same week last month and last year. This week, we have already scheduled a record number, but we are still stretching to reach a specific, beautifully round number with lots of zeros at the end!  We’ll let you know what happens.

So, when we have several consecutive weeks in a row where we see sharp increases in the number of appointments scheduled, we get pretty excited.  But does this “just happen” with no explanation?  We wish…  but not quite!

Our CEO, Kevin Rabbitt, tries to convince us that when he wears his Rally Jacket, we excel. Now, I don’t in any way want to discount the obvious benefit of this unique, mis-matched, loud, plaid, yet expertly tailored garment (which we’ve noticed he coincidentally tends to wear on Fridays when we are already way ahead of plan), but even he concedes that without the additional hard, smart work of the people in 3 key departments, led by Greg BibasJeff Miller, and Scott Pickard, these new levels of success probably would never be reached.

It all starts with Marketing.  Greg Bibas, SVP of Marketing joined us in December, and has continued to build the team with talented, fun people, focusing on initiatives such as empowering our design consultants to professionally build their local businesses, creating partnerships with other companies with a similar customer base, reaching out to past 3 Day Blinds customers, improving our website and online presence, creative direct mail campaigns, and much more!

Second, comes our Appointment Desk.  Led by Jeff Miller, SVP of Client Care, and Rosa Aguirre, Appointment Desk Manager, this team is focused on getting as many qualified appointments on the calendars of our 200 fabulous Design Consultants as possible.  When a prospective client calls, the Appointment Team asks about their window covering needs and matches them with a Design Consultant in their neighborhood who can meet with them at a time that fits their schedule.  We have 15 team members focused on this effort, and this group usually gets A+ ratings when we survey our customers.

Not Pictured: Our 11 District Sales Managers and our 200 Design Consultants who are busy serving clients!Third, comes our team Design Consultants, led by Scott Pickard, SVP of Sales, and 11 District Sales Managers.  They all bring professional backgrounds, intensive training and arsenal of 1000+ products, combined with their passion (another 3 Day Blinds core value) and motivation to serve their clients’ needs.  During the free consultation, they help their client choose the best custom blinds, shades or shutters for their home, take guaranteed measurements, provide a quote and arrange for installation.  And most products can be installed within 3 Days!

Speaking of great products, Kevin suggested that we immediately start developing a Rally Jacket-Inspired Collection of Window Treatments. The next trend in window treatments? Not on my watch! As your blogger, and SVP of Merchandising, I would advise that you don’t wait to place your orders…  I am predicting a very long review process for that idea…

So, book now. We need the appointments to meet our goal, and let’s be honest:  you need new window treatments. It’s a win-win! We can probably meet with you tomorrow, and have brand new custom blinds, shades or shutters professionally installed in your windows by next weekend.  Call 877-614-3329 or meet your local Design Consultant online right now!

UPDATE:  10 PM Mar 12, 2011:  Well, the final count is in, and we are just short of reaching our “stretch goal”, but we still set a new all-time record! Watch for a news flash next week!

UPDATE:  10 PM Mar 19, 2011:  A week later, we hit that magic number, and today was our best sales day ever!  Way to go, team!

Hyatt Highlands in Carmel, CA Chooses 3 Day Blinds as their Window Treatments Supplier – Part 2

The Hyatt Highlands Hotel in Carmel, CA

We have started producing the 208 custom Roller Shades for guest rooms the Hyatt Highlands Hotel in Carmel, CA in the 3 Day Blinds factory.

Xavier Esparza, General Manager, 3 Day Blinds FactoryWe asked Xavier Esparza, the General Manager in our factory about the planning involved in making sure we flawlessly deliver perfect products on time.

“First, we spoke with our Design Consultant, Rhonda Cook, who worked with the Hyatt Highlands Management Team to specify the products, to make sure that we understood the customer expectations, and we will communicate closely with her throughout the project” says Xavier.

“In this case, the client wanted to receive their Roller Shades grouped on pallets by room, on a specific schedule, so that they could keep this section of the property open to their clients, in order to complete the installation as quickly as possible, with  minimal impact to their business.”

So, what steps are involved?  “First, we needed extra roller shade fabric and components from our suppliers, so our Supply Chain Team went into action the moment that this order became a possibility.”

“Then, the Manufacturing Management Team had to plan to push this order through the factory without disrupting the normal flow of orders from our other clients,” says Xavier.  “When we receive a large order like this, it is cause for celebration, but it also requires that we pull together as “One Team” (one of our core values) to ensure a good outcome.”

3 Day Blinds Team Members inspect Roller Shades that they manufactured for the Hyatt Highlands Hotel

What happens once the shades are manufactured?  “As with all of the custom blinds and shades we make, once they are produced, all of our products go through a quality control inspection.  Then, we build custom-made boxes for them to minimize shipping damage. In this case, we are shipping on pallets, because that is what the client requested.”

Any word on the outcome?  “Yes, we have heard from Rhonda that the first installations have been a smashing success!  The team at The Hyatt Highlands Hotel loves the fact that these guest rooms now have an unobstructed view of the beautiful ocean and landscape when the shades are opened, and that there is complete privacy when they are closed.”
