3 Day Blinds and Casa Teresa Partner in Charity Drive to Aid Young Women

Helping those in need, especially this time of year, has always come naturally to 3 Day Blinds. To continue this welcome tradition, this fall the company is partnering with Casa Teresa, a non-profit organization that provides a temporary home and on-going support for women in need of assistance. For their part, 3 Day Blinds is asking every employee at the company to get a gently used purse, either their own or from their wife, mother or friend, and fill it with essentials such as a tooth brush, tooth paste, hair brush, lip balm , wipes, sanitizer, hair ties, and other like items. The purse and items inside will be donated to Casa Teresa and distributed to women in need- those who have perhaps been battered and had to flee their homes, or are homeless due to other unforeseen circumstances.

3 Day Blinds is inviting all of those who wish to participate in this charity to log on to the company’s cause page at http://3dayblinds.thegivingeffect.com/, where they can obtain additional information about effort. The company has also established an email for those seeking a direct response to questions, at: givingback@3day.com.

In past years, 3 Day Blinds has partnered with other organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, in an ongoing effort to give back to the community and help those in need. To help ensure the success of this charity drive, the company is encouraging those who wish to participate to make their donation of essential items before Thanksgiving.

Window Treatments: The Latest Scare Tactics for an even Spookier Halloween.

Looking for a way to add more scary fun to your home for Halloween? Then why not look to your windows, where there’s plenty of space for creating haunting effects for both inside and outside your home. From window clings and silhouettes, to creepy crawly curtains, your imagination is the key to unlocking a venerable dungeon of spooky looks! Plus, once you invest some creativity and a little time, over the years you’ll assemble a collection of stunning Halloween window decorations that are reusable over and over again. And with the affordability of most craft supplies, it’s surprisingly easy and economical to create the perfect look and vibe that will be popular for both family and friends during the Halloween season.

Black Cats, Witches, and Ghosts. They’re all invited!

Even if you don’t have lots of time, a little online research and shopping will yield an array of fun and spook-worthy options from which to choose from. There’s always that symbolic jet black cat, available as a window cling, silhouette, or in fine-gauge lace. Or why not feature the wicked witch, also in convenient cling or silhouette treatments. Ghosts, goblins, witches and just about any and all of your favorite Halloween “spookies” are easily created for windows by simply downloading a template online, printing it out, and then calculating the size you want. Using your template, you can easily sketch out and then cut a silhouette to fit almost any window size. Detailed instructions are easily available online using a few simple keywords, such as “Halloween window templates” or Halloween window silhouettes”.

Creepy Clings that are ready to hang, and more.

Festive Jack o’ Lanterns and such that are “hang ready” make Halloween a snap if you go with a window cling. This popular material comes in a great selection of classic Halloween characters, including spiders, webs, skeletons, witches, and ghosts, among others. Clings are easy to apply and remove, and the graphic quality is highly professional.  Another great idea is setting up a video projection for your window. All you need is a bright harsh light, a cape with a fedora hat and you can stand, maybe holding a knife, in front of the sheet with the light behind you and sway back and forth. All they see outside is the shadow. This makes a great Halloween site for greeting trick or treaters!

 Horror “Reborns” are the Rage.

You can also take advantage of the current rage in zombie dolls. What’s scarier than a doll? A wide-eyed, open-mouthed baby doll.  And what’s even more terrifying than that baby doll? One that’s deliberately been taken apart, painted, and “all dolled up” into a vampire, zombie or even a werewolf, and placing them in your window, either hanging from a rope or having them sit on a window sill. If you haven’t heard of reborn dolls, you’re late to the game: refurbishing factory-made dolls is a 15-year-old phenomenon. Today, there are kits specifically designed for “reborn artists” to craft their own realistic babies and toddlers. But about five years ago, an entirely new subcategory arrived on the “reborn doll” scene – horror reborns. Although creating these spooky, realistic creatures is more time consuming, you can make these yourself or purchase them as well. To make your own, simply do some online searching using the key phrase, “how to create reborn horror dolls”.

As you can see, there’s no limit to what you can do with windows to amplify the sights of Halloween. All you need is a little time and imagination to create window decorations the whole neighborhood will be talking about!

Don’t Let El Nino Spook You…Be Prepared.

As we get closer to the annual fun and spookiness of Halloween, you’ll probably see many costumes decked out in the latest “monster” that’s trending this year: El Nino. Yes, that’s right! It’s not often a severe weather pattern would make the grade when it comes to creating something scary for one of our more popular holidays, but this year’s arrival of El Nino is reportedly packing a powerhouse punch of cold temps and moisture for much of the U.S., and its effects will likely spill over, literally, across several states this winter. Forecasters are predicting with 95% confidence that this year’s edition of El Nino could become the third strongest since 1997-98, according to Mike Halpert, deputy director of NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.

How to Stay Ahead of What’s Heading Our Way.

Despite the fact we can’t control Mother Nature, there are some smart action items you can check off your list to help minimize the negative effects of this weather phenomenon. We’ll briefly cover three ways to prepare for what El Nino might bring this winter. One checklist item includes checking your roof and repairing small cracks, loose tiles or broken shingles. Don’t let these seemingly small wear and tear issues become more expensive problems down the road. A second way to help prepare for El Nino is to change your home’s furnace filter. These filters only cost about $15, and they help to ensure your furnace performs efficiently during colder weather. A third item involves window treatments. Long considered a fashion statement for enhancing a room or entire home, window treatments have become a popular insulator, depending on the type of window treatment solution selected.

From Shutters to Shades, the Right Window Fashions Make a Difference.

Also known as Plantation Shutters, Shutters are not only durable and visually attractive, they also offer superior insulation from colder temperatures. In addition, features such as Prescription Wood Conditioning, that reduces post installation shrinking and swelling, offer resistance to moisture, and Shutters made of Polymer offer superior resistance to warping, fading, or cracking. Cellular Shades, also known as Honeycomb Shades, are another popular window treatment that’s energy efficient. In addition to providing excellent light control, innovative, hexagon-shaped cells allow Honeycomb Shades to filter harsh sunlight and retain room temperature, while providing privacy at the same time. Looking for energy efficiency in blinds? Then you may want to consider Cellular Blinds, which offer the same, innovative soft look and energy efficiency of Honeycomb Shades but with the functionality of a blind. While prepping for adverse weather is never easy, it’s nice to know there are indeed some proactive precautions you can take that will help to handle some of life’s uncontrollable weather.
